My blog is an exstention of my personal website, I do a lot of thinking...I'm known for being opinionated, so here is where I'll rant and rave, show off, toot my own horn, or just let my peeps know what's goin on in my life outside the studio.

Anothr Year Down...

Had a lovely time at my in-laws for Christ-mass, and now I'm kicking back with a week to do whatever I want!!!!! Yes the wonderful yearly winter vacation is under-way! LOVE IT!
I'm going to work on some paintings, sleep, watch some movies, sleep, relax, sleep, play some xbox, sleep, get the tops of my hands tattooed, sleep and generally have a good time and sleep.
Starting after the new year the studio will have new hours of operation, noon to 8pm, perfect for the winter. They're calling for snow today, but I think they're full of shit, they've been wrong all year, Linda says "they're reading tea leafs" HAHAHA I tend to agree with that statement.

I have some great new projects starting after the new year, double sleeve designs on my new client Diego, a little black magic and New Orleans tribute. Starting color on John's Dragon/Koi sleeve I just started a couple days ago. Continuing work on Joanna's back piece, and Shupes back, I'm keeping busy as usual, so there won't be any cabin fever going on at the studio that's for sure. I just finished up Gene's Samurai and Tiger back and I couldn't be happier with the result, it really came together nicely. Gene and I have begun dialogue about half sleeves and front panels.

We'll be going to Aki on New Years with Jan, Jesse and Aidan to celebrate. It'll be Aidan's first dinner out, and first time trying Sushi, I think he'll dig fish eggs. What a big boy now!!

Well enough for now I want to put my feet up and relax and continue my vacation. I hope all my clients and friends had a great Holiday in whatever ritual they participated in.

I get tattooed too!!!

Finally had my piece started by Anya Gladun, she works out of DC Ink. A super great day, I got tattooed and then I worked on her back. One of the many perks of being a tattoo artist, getting to trade with other talented tattooists. The tattoo that Anya is doing for me is a Japanese forbidden tattoo. It's a tattoo to show ones devotion to their lover. I've been planning this tattoo for a super long time, but it wasn't until I saw Anya's work that I knew she had to be the one to do it. Her unique pin-up style and twist on reality is going to make this concept perfect for me. By the way, anyone who knows me knows I HATE GETTING TATTOOED!!!! IT FUCKING HURTS!!!! LOL
Well that's it for now my peeps. I hope everyone is staying warm!!!

In One Week

I spend about 40 to 50 hours a week at my studio, 24 or more of those hours is spent tattooing, the other hours are spent, answering emails, quoting tattoos, fucking around on my computer and doing consultations with clients. What I noticed this week was a flux of new clients coming in that were looking for cover-ups. I do a lot of cover-ups, I mean a lot and what I'm noticing lately is a large concentration of people regretting their tattoos, some from tattoo parties, some from other studios and some from just talentless tattooists. It really makes me wonder if people think about their choices...do they just see an image and think to themselves "yep that's it", it's obvious that that's what happens. But what they're failing to do is take the time to find the right person to do the tattoo. There are thousands of extremely talented tattooists out there, but just because someone put an open sign up and has themselves a machine doesn't make them the right person to do the job. Frankly, I'm sick of being a miracle worker for other peoples sudden urges and spur of the moment events. It doesn't mean I won't do your cover-up, that's not my point at all. I myself have a cover-up from a mis-spent youth so I know what people are going through when they get "tattoo fever" but for fuck sake, slow down. Take your time, do your research and by all means look at the pictures these people present as their portfolios. Just because someone is known for being a "good drawer" doesn't mean they're a good tattooist. Are their lines, sharp and crisp? Is their color work solid and concentrated? Does the design make sense, can you tell what it is? Does the panther look like a panter or does it look like a lizard? Does the Angel face look like a real face or does it look like your 2 year olds construction paper drawing? Think of it this way, when someone walks into a gallery and there are paintings on the wall, that buyer knows a few general things about what their going to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on. They know the artists name, maybe their background, their style, a few things about their technique and of course they know the quality of the painting they are buying. When you as a collector of tattoos is shopping for tattoo work, you should know what you're looking at, you should know someting about the artist you're buying from and you should know their work. Unlike a painting, if it goes out of style or doesn't match the furniture anymore you can burn it, throw it out, shove it in a closet or attick. With a tattoo it's there FOREVER, and there may not be a way to fix it, or cover-it and sometimes laser removal doesn't always work. So, get educated about your life altering desisions, don't rely on just your friends to tell you who is good, or cheap or available now. Take responsibility.
That's all for now folks!!
PEACE, LOVE & MOTHER FUCKING TATTOOS!!!!

OK it's November already?

WTF? HAHAHA

Man ok so here it is another month gone by, just like that poof!

Studio remodeling is happening and it looks FANTASTIC!!! I couldn't be more pleased, Tim is doing a bang up job!! When all is said and done we will be holding a little open house for clients to see as well as posting pictures online.

I've taken on some great new projects, a double sleeve concept from a great guy who even had laser done to give me a clean slate to work with. Some cover-up work on the rack , just finished this swallow ribcage piece, (that's pictured here to the left) dude sat like a champ!! Five and a half hours in one session, I would have gone fetal!! But that's why my clients rock!!! A lil sketch there too that I did for another new client, sweet lil thing, her first tattoo. I did a massive update on my personal site, with all the new backpieces I've started and the sleeves I've recently completed. I am certainly not bored or struggling for work, that's for sure. It makes me thankful to walk into my studio every day that people trust me with their skin and their inspirations. I've invested my life to this craft and my clients and it does pay off. Nothing in this industry comes easy for women, that's for sure, I was told once that my "tits were too big to learn to tattoo" LOL Believe it!! I've had my share of people taking advantage of my kindness and generosity, but in the long hall those who have been true friends, those I can count on, who don't want anything from me but plain ol' me and my smiling face are still in my life. I certainly keep myself reserved now from people, which I have to say has only made me focus more on my art and tattooing. So thanks!!
Well peeps time to get in the shower and get off to the studio to "sling some ink". I hope everyone is enjoying the coming Fall, the leaves on the mountain are beautiful, and the ride into town is spectacular!!
PEACE, LOVE, & MOTHERFUCKIN' TATTOOS!!!!

I'm Back!!!

Sorry for the lag in entries, dealing with other peoples drama got me a little side tracked from my mission. But, that bullshit is over with and so here I am!!! A lot going on, the remodeling of the studio is going well, the front tattoo room is completely re-done and it looks amazing, Tim is doing a bang up job, I couldn't be happier!!! The new porch at the studio is almost finished, just some staining and then sealed. There's just been a buzz of handy man activity going on, i've never been surrounded by so many productive males before LOL

It has been the month of starting backpieces, 3 total and another 2 in November. I have been staying busy with some amazing projects. My clients and I have been doing some really great brain storming. All my updates of course are at my site http://tattoosbystacy.com/

My birthday is tomorrow!!!! YAYYY!!!! I must be the only 40 something woman that likes her birthday. It doesn't bother me especially when people ask me how old I am and when I tell them they usually say "WOW I thought you were in your late 20's" HA!!!! It's going to be a low key day, sleep in, relax, maybe a little dinner out, nothing too out-landish.

Fall is here, and the mountain is BEAUTIFUL!!!! A little crisp at night and it's been windy but the colors are sooo incredible. Nature is the perfect palette. I've been inspired to start a new painting, but surprisingly enough the colors aren't fall like at all. Maybe by the dead of winter I'll get into that.
I stumbeled onto a band last month called The Nation, apparently they've been around for a while, based out of NYC, love em!!! Very somber, almost Joy Division-esk. They're great for relaxing to but I have been oddly motivated by their morbid dark tone. I've only downloaded their recent release but fully intend on getting their entire catalog. I've also been listening to a lot of Rammstein, I know polar opposites but what can I say that's how I roll.
Well the day is-a-waistin and I wanna get some things done before my day of celebration tomorrow. I hope all of you are taking advantage of this beautiful day and doing something you enjoy. Peace, Love and MOTHERFUCKIN' TATTOOS!!!!!!

KOREAN FOOD ROCKS!!!!

BTW if you kids out there don't know. Went to Philly to hang with my friends and we hit up our favorite Korean place and chowed!!! Had a great weekend!!!! I always do when I'm surrounded by good positive people. Nerice LOVED her BERFDAY painting I did for her, it'll look great in their new house. According to her!!

Studio has been busy busy with the cooler weather coming in, suits me just fine since I'm a workaholic! LOL Remodeling is happening as well, love the color scheme we picked and it's getting under way!! I've been working on some really exciting pieces lately...starting a Samurai and Tiger backpiece that I'm just loving the progress on. This is Gene's first serious piece and he sits like an animal!! Posted pics above.
In a couple weeks I'll be starting a Geisha and waterfall backpiece and a Dragon and Koi back as well. I'll of course be uploading pics to my In Progress Gallery at my site http://www.tattoosbystacy.com
Loving the color change on the mountain!! My favorite time of year!! There have been a lot of deer in the yard lately too. It's incredible to watch in the morning when I'm having my juice, they walk right up to the house and eat the clover. Saw a young buck witht he family the other day, hopefully he gets grow a lil more before some hunter comes by and puts a bullet in him.
Well gotta run and get ready for my day. Enjoy the day everyone!
PEACE LOVE AND MOTHER FUCKIN TATTOOS!!!!!!

What a weekend...

I was kidnapped and taken to Jersey for a 4 hour drive...then made to wait 12 hours before someone put any type of food in front of me. By the time that happened we had to drive another 1.5 hrs. and ended up at "World Famous Elaine's" which is suppose to be a Haunted Dinner Theatre...BULL FUCKING SHIT!!!! Now even tho I was hungry, light headed and had started having my fill of small disease spreading children, I found myself seated in the dining room, surrounded by signs saying Zombie Beach Party, WTF?!!!! OK rolls come, thank Christ!!! Feeling blood sugar return to normal...so I'm looking around and this place is a dive...a Cape May New Jersey tourist trap. I'm locating fire exits that are blocked by tables, the ceiling that has water damage and prolly installed in the 70's so I'm sure I'm inhaling asbestos. Here strolls our lil blond waitress, with some goofy fake accent because she can't keep it going so I know it's fake...verbal menu starts, sounds yummy. All 9 of us place our order, and literally within 5 mins we get our soups, you can tell immediately it's from a can, hello? where's my appetizer? OH here in New Jersey you get that after your soup...morons!!! Ordered New England Clam Chowder, hello? OH here in NJ it's red not white...morons, that's Manhattan Clam Chowder. OK it's get better from here, spinach/artichoke comes during the meal and it's from a powder box mix, I shit you not!! I'm just glad I have rolls with butter in front of me. The waitress with her fake accent is snippy and rude...the speakers for the theatre keep giving loud feed back from the next room which is giving me an ear ache. Another waitress keeps hitting the back of my chair every time she walks by, I scooch in, I'm a big girl, I get it...BUT she keeps hitting it. Entrees come...I ordered Crab cake thinking we're in Cape May they gotta be bangin!!! HELL FUCKING NO!!! Dry as a bone, no flavour, and a lemon wedge on top...hello? Do I need to send Ramsey in to update your fucking menu?!!! OK this bitch waitress keeps bumping my chair, ima about to go galactic, still keep in mind no theatre production..OH in NJ the show is not with the meal, it comes after when the entire 100 of us in the dining room is done eating. WTF?! Dessert is served...best thing on the menu, key lime pie, cause that shit was shipped in, they didn't make it!! LOL lights go off, and the show begins...I have seen better high school productions. The sets were obviously painted by an amature Bob Ross(may he rest in peace, if he's not turning over in his grave), the show really has nothing to do with Zombies, a bit of a beach party I can tell but the entire production centers around a pregnant girl, mind you there are kids, lil weebles in the audience. Not age appropriate AT ALL. The show lasts for about an hour and a half, 30 mins too long for sure!!
Bill comes!! $500.00, yes people, that's right...thank Christ I was only paying for Linda and I. They've got to be joking!!!!!!! What a fucking rip off!!! BUT!!! I GOT THE COMMENT CARD!! MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Never again!!

Where Has The Summer Gone?

I can't believe August is just around the corner...amazing!!! Literally, the summer has just flown by...which can I just say good, I HATE HOT WEATHER!!! Autumn is my time of year and it's going to be great watching the leafs on the mountain turn. And then it's time for me to get to work on my own tattoo work, I like getting tattooed in cooler weather, and Jim and I have put the breaks on my leg long enough. I want this finished!!!! Only so I can move onto something else LOL

Here's a lil update for the Meeting Of The Marked convention in Oct. I am booked solid on the 29th and 30th, but still have an opening for Nov. 1st so if anyone is interested you should contact me ASAP.

OK enough with that...work has been jamin' I've takin on some great new projects; working on a drawing for a full back, Samurai and Tiger battling, which will be super exciting to start. Also starting sketch work for another back that I will be starting at the M.O.M. convention, a Tiger and Koi theme with Peonies. Doing some revisions to a sleeve of a theme that's new to me, a Masonic sleeve. I did a lot of research for this bad boy and according to my client this is going to be the sleeve of all sleeves. That's the sketch depicted above, I have a few additions I need to make, but other than that we are ready to rock and roll on this.
Updated my In Progress Gallery on my website http://tattoosbystacy.com A lil from Josh's sleeve, Jeremy's back, and Zakk's chest. I'll also be adding some healed pictures from Dale's thighs, she was down this weekend to add some flowers to her upper shoulder so while she was here we got some pics of her Tiger and Snake thigh and her other Phoenix and Chrysanthemum thigh.
Well my peeps that's it for now, I'm off to do my day off stuff, laundry, shopping, yadda yadda yadda, oh how domestic I can be. Stay cool and remember that sunblock!!!!!

SWEET 16!!

16 years ago, today I turned the Open sign on in a window and Chrome Gardens was born. When I first opened it was just me, answering the phones, tattooing, talking to clients, and then shortly after I brought on Larz "The Punkture God", also known as Larry, who was doing piercings for me and helping out. That first year was scary, but as time went on it got easier and easier, I met Linda in '96 and kidnapped her and straight away put her to work!!! We've had our share of artists come and go, some of the best times is when Bryan Campbell was with us. What a crazy motherfucker but talented, Bryan and I got our start together in the business and it was a joy to have him working along side me again. Having Janis here was a good time as well, and from that we have built an incredible friendship and bond. I love you Jan!!! When I reflect back through the years I can honestly say with no regrets I would never trade what I do, who I do it with or where I do it for anything in the world. I've made my own lil creative cocoon and I enjoy coming to the studio every single day! My clients make it fun for me, they keep me on my toes and without their support I would still be in Advertising...cringe to the thought of that sterile corporate environment!!!!! For the past year now I've had two awesomely fun people working with me, Jim and Mandy, they're top notch kids!! Mandy being my apprentice has racked my nerves some days but I love watching her progress into the talented tattoo artist she's become. Jim is a stand up guy and with a talent like his behind the machine I have no worries. They've made this past year a real pleasure and we're looking forward to many more. I can't begin to thank everyone the list is too long but you know who you are!! The Chrome Gardens family is a large one, people like Christian, Zakk, Jeremy, Rick, Dale, etc. have always been here to lend a hand when needed. It's great to have such a large support system in place, they got my back! Thanks everyone I love you all!!!! Raise your glasses to Chrome Gardens and another 16 Years!!

Here It Comes!

My lil ultra mini vacation in Rehoboth was fun, met some new people and connected with some old. HAHAHA sorry Sean, I couldn't resist. The weather was nice until Sunday hit and it was back into the 90's, and don't even get me started on yesterday. It seems to be more of the same this week as well, I am soooo grateful for air conditioning!!!

Working on Peg's Phoenix backpiece today, finishing it up is in the agenda. She certainly took the plunge...and we're discussing some further pieces for the future. I finished a sketch last week for a great client I've done a lot of work on, a lil fun thing, out of the norm for me, apparently a friend of hers got part of same concept but she wanted to push it just a lil further, which is always exciting for me. I've haven't done an Owl in oh so very long and I had been playing around with this concept for a while so when Amber contacted me it was like the gates opened and angels sang. LOL Well maybe more like voices in my head, but you get my meaning. I posted the sketch, I hope you enjoy.
Teaming up with Mandy again in a couple weeks to work some more on her mom Dales' Gypsy leg. Dale took her usual winter break but now that her skin is out and the weather has warmed up for that long drive from North Jersey it's time we got back to work. I promise to get some pics this time of our progress, we get so excited and Dale has so much energy after a session I forget. She's the only person I know who can get up after a 4 hr. long tattoo session and start clickin' her heals and stompin' her feet in a fit of musical frenzy. I am literally dazed after I get tattooed and just wanna crawl into the fetal position and sleep. I HATE the outline!!! but shading and color work never bother me the same, I really don't know too many Tattoo Artists that like getting tattooed, most of my friends in the industry I work on are babies like me. We hate it, it's a control thing I believe, just like Doctors make the worse patients.
Well it's 8:43 am and I have some work to do before I get into the studio, until next time my darlings!!! Peace, Love and MOTHERFUCKIN' TATOOS!!!!! \m/

WOW June was busy!

Going through my schedule and photos from June...this was a Damn busy month.

No complaints, understand that...but my ass has been planted in my chair and puttin some color out. Yesterday I finished Larry's Hawk and Tiger sleeve:
This month was also the month of starting new projects, I started another Hawk sleeve on Jason, started color on Josh's Buddhism sleeve, worked on Lloyd's body suit, added color to Scott's Koi cover up, and more color on Peg's back. I also started on a new piece for Mandy, a goat demon hell devil, started the outline for Zakk's chest. So, like I said it's been a busy month.
To reward myself we're taking off to RoHo to stay with friends over the 4th of July weekend. I can't tell you how long it's been since we were away during a weekend...it's about time LOL My plan is to be plugged into my IPod and read a good book (yes I read) I've been wanting to start this book for weeks "The Runaways" by Cherie Curry, it's a light read but entertaining enough to keep me focused. Hopefully the rain will stay away...

Updates Abound

I love doing updates and keeping all my peeps well informed of my progress with my work.
Plugging away on Peg's back piece, only a few more sessions and we will finished and free to move onto other concepts we've been discussing. By the way people the Ohm was here first piece...she's taking this tattoo thing quite serious.

I'm also moving at warp speed with Larry's sleeve of the Hawk and Tiger, we're practically working on it every week. He's a beast. Healing it flawlessly as well. But to see it in all it's bigness go to his page in the In Progress Gallery http://http://tattoos-by-stacy.smugmug.com/Tattoos/In-Progress-1/9575760_u7stN#868462402_EpcZo-A-LB
Scott's Koi cover up is moving right along and I've also added a piece I'm doing on Zakk's chest, a nautical theme. I've also added a piece I just started on my apprentice Mandy. A very wicked satanic piece, involving a goat's head, bats and a pentagram. When she showed the picture to her mom Dale also a long time client and friend she said; "well I taught you right" LOL
So, my loveleeees when you have time pop on over to my site http://www.tattoosbystacy.com and check out all the new eye candy, cause DAMN IT I put a lot of work into this!!! PEACE OUT!!

Healed Piczzz

I had done this Michael Meyer's Halloween sleeve on Melanie last year but with her work schedule and visiting every Horror Convention on the East Coast we haven't been able to meet up and do healed pics.
Finally we did and here they are. This was a super fantastic bubble plastic piece to work on. It gave me a chance to really show off my own love of Horror and ofcourse Michael Meyer's Halloween.
I really love Horror films and have been itching to do the girl from the movie Orphan as well as Nightmare On Elm Street or Hellraiser. Of course any of the awesome characters from the 100's of Japanese Horror films. There are just too many to list but if you watch them like I do you know the ones I'm talking about.
Hope you enjoy!!!

I Start Em' Young

Janis brought Aidan by the studio today and I don't know with all that fresh skin on him I had to!!! NOOOOO WAYYY
I would never...but I started to think about it, when Aidan is 18 and ready for his first tattoo I will be 60, gulp. 60?!!!! WTF I hope I can still hold a machine in my hand by then.
There have been plenty of old timers tattooing well into their 70's so I think there's a good chance i'll be giving Aidan his first taste of ink.
Over the years I've had clients ask me to tattoo their kids, as young as 12...I just can't, that's too young. There's a reason why this is a "right of passage" into adult hood. Maybe i'm just being an old fuddy-duddy but there's something about reaching certain ages and earning the right or priviledge for something. It's a ritual event, a coming of age, an event to mark the progression of someone's life. Not...because "Iwant it!"
But I did put a wicked lil black heart on Jani's pinky, she's been itchin since we stopped working on her when she found out she was preggers with the kid. But now that he's out in the real world, work can start on momma again so we just did a lil taste. We'll start back on her Alice in Wonderland sleeve in a couple weeks, wrap that up and move onto some other projects we'eve been discussing over these long 9 months. LOL
Keep cool out there peeps!!

Love What I do

Before
Sketch

In Progress
I've been working on some really interesting projects lately, yesterday tho I started color on a cover up...this client was told by several other artists that this cover-up would be "impossible"
I believe that with a little extra planning and a clever design this could be "possible" Scott gave me creative freedom with this piece with only one request...he wanted a Koi involved someway, somehow. I do a lot of Koi, some clients say that's what I'm known for, however it goes, I like to at least try to make each Koi different in some way since I do so many of them. For Scott his favorite color is red so I wanted to do the Koi in a different color scheme that I think people haven't seen me do before.
Our last session was 3.5 hrs which I basically focused on black and gray and the Koi, I have a few more details I want to add to the Koi before it's finished but here's a lil eye candy to look at while in progress.
I'm also keeping up with in progress pictures on my personal site http://www.tattoosbystacy.com

Long Time!!!

So I use to do a weekly Blog...but then stop it for some reason. Why am I starting? who knows...

What have I been up to? TATTOOING MY BRAINS OUT!!! I have been working so much lately, it's like someone opened the flood gates...or there's a GIANT billboard with my name on it out there on Planet Earth. You know what? That's fine with me...I LOVE IT!!! BRING IT!!!
Every tattoo I do, the better I get...every concept I attack the bigger and better it becomes. Working on a ton of sleeves right now, just finished one that's been in the works for 7 months. Josh and I finished up last Saturday and we were almost sad to see it end, but that's OK because in two weeks Josh is back to start his other sleeve. HOWDY!!!!!

Had some remodeling done in my office at the studio, a new floor, it looks amazing!!! The colors bring out the wood and the sage color of my walls. Makes my office even more cozy, if
that's at all possible.

During my little rest from posting I took on an apprentice. Her name is Mandy and she is a doll!!
It's been a year now of her shadowing me, and we've done some collaborative pieces together, which have rocked, and as of June 1st she will be tattooing at the studio full time. WE ARE STOKED!!! I hired her boyfriend Jim White a year ago as well and they have been working out wonderfully, I couldn't ask for a better team to work with. We all work really well together!!!

It's great having an artist back in the studio that I myself want work from. Jim has started a piece on my calf and we'll be starting the rest of the color soon. I started a chest piece on him at the same time, so we've got quite a bit to keep us busy this summer.

Well I think that's a pretty good update...hope everyone has enjoyed!!!! Check out my In Progress Gallery at my personal site http://www.tattoosbystacy.com

Ciao for now my loves!!!!
KICK ASS AND KEEP GETTIN TATTOOED!!!!!
