WOW

I just bought an iMac and I am soooo excited about the this new trip in cyberville...I figured I use an iPhone, iPad, iTouch, iPod...well damn it I might as well take the big leap and do the whole thing.

It's fun as shit so far but it's going to take a little getting use to, since I'm a PC girl. BUT NOT FOR LONG!!!

2013

2013 has been an absolutely GREAT year!!! TONS of incredible tattoo projects, many new clients have crossed the threshold of the studio. I'm painting everyday, and finally things feel like they've fallen into place. All my hard work over the past 24 years has been paying off, I am in a position that I thought I would never reach. But, working my knuckles down to the bone, squaring my shoulders and pushing through all the bullshit has put me exactly where I want to be. The studio is going on it's 2nd year of being private and the environment I've created has allowed me to work in such a relaxing space, others would be jealous. My convention schedule is going to increase to include, Baltimore, Valley Forge and Cleveland, possibly Hell City as well. I'm excited to start traveling again but I'm not going to take myself away from the studio too much, I have too many projects that I work on every two weeks, it would be unfair to those clients.

All the great people I've met this year has truly made me feel blessed. Incredibly positive and motivational beings that have spurred on creativity for me. I've also had the opportunity to reconnect with old friends that have been truly supportive in my ever lasting journey for self improvement and exploration.

I'm happy to say that I am healthy, physically and emotionally, both Linda and I have taken this new road and have found a peaceful journey compared to the roller coaster of past years. We have built a loving family, a tattoo family. The Super Secret Tattoo Society (stickers coming soon) where we are free to be ourselves. We are grateful.

Bring on 2014 I'm ready and chomping at the bit!!! So excited and ready to share all the goodness with all of you. Even tho I'm still waiting for my jet pack and transporter, I feel this year is going to be even more exciting than the previous.

Every chance I get lately I have been painting my ass off...I'm absolutely amazed with the amount of inspiration I'm having working in a private setting. Pretty snazzy I must say and the color registry is PERFECT!!! I couldn't ask for anything better. It was one of the things I worried most about was the color correction, some places just don't get it right, but happy to say this place does.

So, I keep pushing forward as always, staying busy on all fronts which you all know makes me super happy. Taking on some incredible new clients with awesome concepts that are really fun to do. I have only a couple spots left for the Philadelphia show in 2014, so if any of you were considering making time with me I suggest you get in contact. I also just got an invite to do the Cleveland show in the summer, that's going to make my Ohio clients very very happy. My birthday was just on the 18th and that was a total BLAST!!!! A group of us went to Morimoto's in Philly and ate decadently and drank to excess. I'd have to say it was the best birthday ever...but Linda keeps reminding me I always say that LOL I guess I'm one of those people who likes their birthday.

Sorry this isn't longer, but I think I've hit all the important points that I wanted to cover. I have a long day today, starting color on a full sleeve of a cherry blossom tree and koi. So, for now I'm out!!

Travel and Conventions

Hey my peeps some exciting news...so for a while there's been an over-whelming interest in my getting back on the convention circuit. People have been contacting me as well as long time clients inquiring if I'll do conventions again. Mmmmm and I've been scratching my chin at the idea... I gave up working conventions because it took too much time away from the studio and not having the right kind of staff to handle being alone in the studio made it near impossible for me to continue to do conventions. I am also blessed with clients who want huge work and traveled to me so that always keeps me tethered to the studio. So conventions were always such an inconvenience for me.

Now that I've gone private my life has become so much easier as well as less stressful which has opened me up to being able to schedule more travel time for conventions. My work load is still the same which keeps me busy but I have more opportunities now to have a more flexible schedule which makes me super excited!!!!

Not to worry, since I'm booked into January 2014 I'm not going on some long 6 month tour off to Europe, I'm easing myself back into things and starting with the Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention at the beginning of February. When it gets closer to the end of the year I should have the exact dates from the promoter. I'll have my chica Anya Gladun from The Body Gallery with me so we'll be hottest booth there LOL Then it will be onto some other East Coast shows and so on and so forth. I'm going to be picky and work the shows I use to do and possibly add some other ones that have a good vibe. I'll be adding a new page to the studio website and my personal site with all the shows and dates that I'll be doing. I don't want traveling to take away from my schedule at the studio so things will be well balanced to keep my on going large projects and long time clients a priority, they are the most important. However I'm opening myself up to people who are unable to travel to me or to get myself a little closer to those who do travel to come see me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

As of July 15th 2013 my studio has been successfully operating for 19 years!!! BOOOYAH!!!
It also marks the 1 year anniversary of the studio going private!! BLAM!!!
As you can tell I'm very excited and proud...it's been a long road, a bumpy road at times but never a boring one. Some people open studio after studio and never get it right...some people hop from studio to studio and never get it right. I think I've gotten it right, and the proof is in the pudding. I never walk around with my hand out, but I have given a hand up to many artists, some who have gone on to make this craft better and some who have become a down right embarrassment. My doors have been open to the best and sometimes the worst, but I don't regret a single moment because for me it's all lead me to where I am right now. And I'm still lovin' it!!! Every minute of it!! I've worked my ass off and now I get to enjoy it. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHROME GARDENS!!! You're still my baby!!
Thanks to everyone who made my day yesterday special, thank you to all my clients and friends who wished me congratulations and much more success. There's so much more to come and I'm glad I'm here to share it with open eyes and a open heart.

So...apparently I have become a non entity to Facebook, as of last night my personal page has been disabled, without notice or provocation. I dunno what's going on, they don't recognize me as a person LOL I've had a Facebook page since 2008, I have quite an extensive amount of photos as well as friends, including daily interaction on my page by people and of course myself. So, the geniuses at Facebook are requiring me to prove that I exist by providing my drivers license. I contacted them early this morning with all my important information...I'll provide my Passport if  need be LOL
They gave me a que reply that I would "receive an email shortly" that was 3 hours ago, apparently Facebook's timeline and the rest of the worlds timeline is quite different. I find this all too hilarious to be honest...I can still access my Studio page, which doesn't prevent me from being on Facebook, or posting to Facebook. We'll see what happens kids!!!

So, my website is no longer hosted by Tattoos.com after 14 years, I really started to feel it was a big waste of money. If you build a website and smart enough to know how to write your meta tag you don't need over priced, under appreciated hosting. Both the studio and my personal website was hosted by them and it's just not worth it. They don't keep their site up to date or gear it the people who pay them for their service. Damian is a great guy...but over the years Tattoos.com has become less and less of a priority for him and his staff.

So onto bigger and better things...Linda has been completely revamping the studio website as we do every so often and it's starting to look really cool!! My site is staying the same, the interface is easy and it allows me the freedom to do mobile uploads and all the geek junk.

HELLO 2013

Well the world didn't end, and here we are in 2013...where's my jet pack?!!! We were promised jet packs and space travel to Mars by now...fuckin' liars!!! I hope everyone had enjoyable holidays, I'm glad they're over and life can return to normal. As normal as it can be for a woman who stares at peoples naked body parts all day and colors on them LOL

The year has started off with a bang of productivity, a lot of new projects. Leg sleeves, sleeves and back pieces, oh my LOL But honestly what a great start to the year.

The proverbial question lately has been "why aren't you open to the public anymore" And here is the answer...because I don't have to be. Jan 11th 2013 will mark my 23rd year tattooing and my clients do not get small tattoos. If you know me and know my work then you know I focus on large scale body coverage concentrating on Japanese and Custom work. My schedule is booked out 4 to 6 months in advance, so for me to do someones name or tribal lower back piece is just foolish. I am constantly taking on new clients and new projects, so I'm not missing out on anything. There are plenty of places that have the time and the tattooists to do that caliber of work for people, but it's just not me.

Making the decision to go private was for me to focus more on my clients and the type of work I do, my days of doing 8 tattoos a day are over and have been for quite some time. In the past I would bring tattooist in to take walk-ins but 9 times out of 10 I was having to touch up their work, or deal with complaints from clients about their attitude or blah blah blah. Too much headache and drama for me, thanks.

My schedule is such that I have clients who travel from all over and sit for 6 to 7 hrs. in one day or I may have a day where I have two clients scheduled and each of them sit 3 to 3.5 hrs. a session. I've done my time doing small tattoos, I've done my time doing flash work, I've done my time of tattooing as many people as I can in one day...I've done my time and now it's time for me to enjoy the hard work that I've put into my craft.

I've never set out to be the biggest or busiest studio in the area, having a gang of other artist producing mediocre work out of my studio never interested me. I just don't have that level of testosterone. So, this is the reason why I am private and why my studio isn't open to the public, because I simply don't need nor want to be. I want to be right where I am doing large full body coverage and focusing on the type of tattooing I want to do.

There's the big mystery of why I'm not open to the public anymore...I'm not dying of cancer...I'm not going blind...I don't have crippling arthritis and I haven't stopped tattooing. There's a saying "If they're not talking about you, you're not doing it right" so I must be doing it right for so many people to be all up in my bizness, LOL

So for all my clients, and for all my new clients, take rest in knowing I am well and doing fine and as long as we know what's going on that's all that matters. I talk the talk and I walk the walk...

HI EVERYONE!!!

I'm here...I promise...and alive and well. Going private has literally been the best choice I've ever made in my life...well next to tattooing. It has been wonderful...so wonderful that I've been focusing on even bigger pieces and focusing more on painting as well.  What a sensual experience it is to have a private, quiet, void of other artists drama space to work in.

This is a piece I just finished for my client Peg, this is the 3rd project we've done on her. Super fun gal and always just let's me do my thing. You can see the rest of her work in in my Japanese Gallery on my personal site.

Jim's sleeve also pictured, what a great project that was...another client who just gave me a free reign over the concept.






We're now moving onto his back which is the goddess of music, very excited about this. She is the goddess Benzaiten and carries a lute with her, she is the goddess of music, which fits Jim perfectly for his own passion for music. The outline will take about three sessions to complete, it's very detailed. Her gown has a dragon and cloud work on it, as well as the addition of chrysanthemums and wind work added to background.

This was just the stencil for Benzaiten, which will cross across the left butt cheek and onto and around the left thigh.

Soooo, yeah I've been working on a lot of groovy pieces. Taken on some concepts that believe it or not I've never done before which is really exciting and fresh.

Some new clients from Ohio, and Wisconsin and California, which I am always honored that people travel so far for my work. It really is a special feeling and very humbling.

This was SUPER AWESOME!!!! My work was heavily used is the newly published book "Asian Motifs for Tattoos" by Sanjukta Ghose. She had contacted me a couple months ago, asking permission to use some of my work for her book, but I had no idea that my work would be featured on the spine, inside cover, back cover and 13 other places through out the book. Even one of my Tebori was featured. What an honor to be 1 of only 2 American Tattoo Artists featured in this book...a very monumental point in my career, I must say. It's one thing to have your work featured in a magazine but it totally feels completely different to see it in someone elses book. Ding Dong...

Well it's been a full month or a little more of the studio being private, and I love it!!!! I probably should have done this years ago, but everything happens in it's own sweet time. There's no turning back now and that's fine with me. I love everything about being private...most of all not dealing with kids who are price shopping or just wasting our time.

So as it stands things have been great and I'm loving the new layout, the serenity and over-all positive vibe being private lends to my studio. My clients have been loving it as well, really excellent feed back.

I am honored to be a part of such a great publication, as well as being in the company of some really talented artists. Girl, you'll be a woman...

Tomorrow is the studio's 18th Birthday!!! What a woman she's grown into!!! It's been a classic Cinderella story, and now the new chapter begins.

We've been busting out hump to get her ready for the 17th, everything's almost done, we'll make a final push this weekend to get things perfect and in their proper place. Knowing me they're will be some final tweeks here and there until I'm 100% satisfied.  I will post pics probablt sometime in the next couple weeks.

My bestest friend in the entire universe is on her way down today with her awesome husband and kick ass son. Coming to celebrate with me with a Sushi dinner and some Saki probably. Can't wait to see her!! We've been chums since our learners permit in High School, not to many people have that kind of friend/sister/comrad. She owns a toy store in Doyelstown PA, and what a success she is, who would have thought two goth nerd chics from a small town would rock it so hard in their 40's now!!! LOL

I've been doing some painting and other outside art in the time we've been remodeling. I plan to do a serious of Shunga pieces, as well as tattoos. Shunga (春画^?) is a Japanese term for erotic art. Most shunga are a type of ukiyo-e, usually executed in woodblock print format. While rare, there are extant erotic painted handscrolls which predate the Ukiyo-e movement.^[1] Translated literally, the Japanese word shunga means picture of spring; "spring" is a common euphemism for sex.

As well as a series of Sepuka works. To the left is the first in the series.
Seppuku (切腹^?, "stomach-cutting") is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment. Seppuku was originally reserved only for samurai. Part of the samurai bushido honor code, seppuku was either used voluntarily by samurai to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies (and likely suffer torture), or as a form of capital punishment for samurai who had committed serious offenses, or performed for other reasons that had brought shame to them. They often committed seppuku when in danger of being killed by the enemy, or even sometimes it was voluntary as they thought it was honourable. The ceremonial disembowelment, which is usually part of a more elaborate ritual and performed in front of spectators, consists of plunging a short blade, traditionally a tantō, into the abdomen and moving the blade from left to right in a slicing motion.

July 15th 2012 marks the 18th Year Anniversary for Chrome Gardens. How exciting is this?!!! VERY!!

We are over-joyed in celebration and in our efforts to make the studio an even better environment for you and for myself. We are making the transition into a private, exclusive studio. What does this mean?

This means that we will no longer be open as a street studio. This means that our studio will... be private for an even more pleasurable experience to be had by all.

We will be providing a lounge for my clients to rest or chill after and/or before the long journey. A lounge fully equipped with a flat screen television, coffee, tea, juices, water and snacks, etc. Homemade goods provided by Chef Dan of course.

Providing you with an atmosphere of comfy chairs and sofa to relax, a place to unwind before we start our session or before you head back on the road.

I have been tattooing now for 22 years and this is what I have always dreamed of for my clients and for myself. My clientele have become some of the most diverse and exclusive gathering of people I could ever hope for, serious collectors of fine Japanese and Custom tattoos. It's time for us to go to the next level. This environment will be privileged, comfortable and Zen for everyone.
This DOES NOT mean I'm retiring or not accepting new clients or new projects, I'M ALWAYS READY FOR NEW WORK, it means that, you as my client, will get to enjoy an even better premier
experience beyond the work I do on you.

For those of you that have appointments after July 16th the only change that will happen, will be a simple push of the buzzer at the door and Linda will be there to let you in. So, business as usual for myself, same great location, just an immersion of a long awaited dream that has become reality.

Dunno...

Honestly I don't know why I started a Blog, I'm horrible at keeping up with it.
I've just been so busy with work and life, it seems sometimes the time it takes to sit here and write
is just wasted. No one reads this damn thing anyway LOL

Staying steady at work, booking into the end of October now, which has a few people pissy but honestly if you don't want to wait for me then you really don't want work from me. I am but one person with two arms and I work my ass off on large pieces not lil flash trinkets. Look at my portfolio before you come to talk to me, see that I work on sleeves, back pieces, full body suits and if you feel that I'm the right person to do your hummingbird tattoo than guess what? You're going to have to be patient before I'm able to get you into my schedule, it's as simple as that. I try to accommodate as many people as possible...but I also have a life. I'm just telling it like it is.


So, yes I've been staying very busy with some incredibly fun pieces. A little of this and little of that...
Jim's sleeve is coming along very well, we just finished the color on the Hannya mask and we'll be moving on up to the "Lover's Kiss"
Kristie is a new client and we did a great session doing all her outline for her 3/4 sleeve of mums with water and wind. This is her first project and she sat like a real pro.
I've been plugging away at DJ's back, what a cover-up, this is almost as bad as Christian's but at least with DJ there's only the entire right shoulder to hide and not his entire lower back. So far the design is covering well and I'm really enjoying the outcome so far.

Just finished a really fun half sleeve on a new client it took 10 hours and 2 sessions. Joe was NOT fucking around, this guy is an animal. We were all so impressed with his ability to sit for 5 solid hours each session and then healing his work flawlessly. WAY TO GO JOE!!! Now his piece you'll have to go back to my website and look in my In Progress Gallery. I'll give you a hint, it has lotus flowers.

Well folks it's time for me to get down to business and do some drawings for upcoming pieces.

M.I.A. I'm back!!!!!

Sorry guys and gals, the new year turned out to be way busier than I had anticipated, but I'm back!!
It's been crazy and wonderful for the past month,  work has kept me busy as usual and I've been involved with two upcoming books. Both are coming out this summer; the first one is a compilation of tattoo artists who've provided the publisher with some of their best tattoos of flowers and other natures gifts. When Nature Calls like I said will be coming out this summer, and I will keep you guys posted to where you can purchase this goody. Now for something really special, my work will be heavily featured in the book Asian Tattoo Motifs which will be published internationally and will also be coming out this summer. Both of these books will be available for purchase and anyone wanting signed copies just let me know. I'm pumped and I hope you are too!!!

Now for work, keeping me busy and creatively on a natural high!! I've picked up  some great new clients and some awesome additions to long time clients. I've been working Jeremy's melon with a great Samurai Skull, just added color to Andrew's second sleeve from me, Chris's huge leg sleeve is finally outlined and we'll be starting color soon, and Anya will be getting color to her belly dancer in the next month or so. Kade( Jeremy and Nikki's youngest son) one of the smallest members of the Chrome Gardens Tattoo Family. Also I've brought on Josh Colledge, who's a newbie to tattooing but making a fine impression on clients. Christian is staying busy and has an ever increasing clientele. Our newest member to the staff at the studio is Darlene, she's coming in to assist Linda on Thursday's to keep the masses in line at the front.

Snow in October?

You must be fucking joking!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It's enough to make me lose my sense of humor, but we survived through it!! It's great to have a geni.

So, a topic of discussion has risen amongst my friends and I about these studios doing, $10, $13 and $50 tattoos on stupid gimmicks like Friday the 13th, Halloween and Breast Cancer ribbons. Tattoos that cheap don't even pay for the set up, the equipment being used. If a studio or an artist has to cheapen themselves that low to make money, there's a real problem. Maybe they need to take a hard look at the way they do business, or their superior attitude keeping them from getting work. That would be my first thought. Studios that do gimmicks put a bad name on our craft, it shows that all they care about is the "money". They don't care if they're doing quality work or setting a standard. They don't care if their cutting corners in their sterilization or prep, they just wanna get you in and out, like an assembly line. Serious people looking for serious work don't seak out artists who cheapen themselves with deals, breaks and trades. What we do as tattoo artists is a perfected craft that demands respect and when the artists themselves don't respect it, how do they expect anyone to take them serious?

That's my lil rant for the month. I should probably go around to every studio that does this dumb shit and thank them, it allows me to get connect with the serious collectors and do major work.

I wrote a new blog a couple days ago, it was pretty good one too. It said it was "auto saving" but when I went to publish it the button wouldn't work, so I went into the saved blogs and it wasn't there. FUCKERS!!!

I will write another one, when I'm not so pissed off at technology for waisting my time!!!
